News

Precinct Caucuses are here again in Minnesota and this is your chance to lay the ground work towards electing Republicans in everything from City Council to President of the United States.  This is where it all starts!

Who can attend Precinct Caucuses?

You can! Precinct caucuses are open to the public and as a grassroots organization, we depend on your involvement!

In order to vote, offer resolutions, or become a delegate, you must:

  • Be eligible to vote in the fall election
  • Live in the precinct.
  • Be in agreement with the principles of the Republican Party and plan to vote for a Republican for president.

What are Precinct Caucuses?

This is the start of organizing for the election in November and there are a number of things you'll do to begin that process.

  1. Vote in the Presidential straw poll, indicating your preference for the Republican Presidential candidate! This year it's a bind vote, so Minnesota delegates at the National Convention will be determined by your vote!
  2. Elect precinct officers who will organize political activities in your precinct! Precincts are the most basic political unit and many activities start at this level.
  3. Elect delegates to represent your precinct at upcoming political conventions! After this there will be BPOU, Congressional District, State and National conventions where Republican candidates at all levels will be determined. Your delegates represent you at those conventions.
  4. Discuss issues important to you with those that live near you! Your precinct can pass resolutions, which are idea you want Republican candidates to support. Those ideas may very well become part of the party platform

Please write down what precinct you're in and bring that with to the appropriate location! We will start in a general session for that location but then we'll break into precincts, so it'll help if you know which precinct room you should go to in advance!

How will the Precinct Caucuses be conducted?

When you show up at your precinct caucus location at 7pm on Tuesday, March 1st, we will start out in a general session (follow the signs). There one of our local Republican party officers will welcome you and introduce the process and what's going to happen to any newcomers. It's very possible that one or more office holders will be allowed to give a very brief speech.

Then the group will be dispersed to our precinct rooms.  When you first arrive you will be given a map so you know what classroom your precinct is meeting in. Head to that room and you'll be asked to sign in, and you'll be given a ballot for the Presidential Straw Poll. After the poll is conducted the results will be announced and then your precinct will proceed to elect precinct officers, delegates and discuss any resolutions that anyone wishes to propose.
